Estimada Suegra,

Amé a mi esposo desde que nos casamos pero su inestabilidad ha hecho que el amor muera. Me quiero divorciar porque nuestra relación cada vez es más dificil. No podemos comunicarnos. El ejerce mucho control sobre mi y todo lo que hago y yo ya estoy cansada. Él no hace mucho por trabajar es muy inestable. Trabaja tres meses o seis y luego deja de trabajar. Hizo negocios que nos llevaron a la quiebra porque pidió mucho dinero prestado. Si yo trabajo, y él se tiene que quedar en la casa no hace nada. Y no coopera con nada. Consumió drogas por mucho tiempo hasta que lo corrieron de su trabajo y fue a dar a un centro de rehabilitación. Después de once años de matrimonio creo que ya estiempo de divorciarme. Usted qué opina?

Dear Mother-in-Law,

I love this guy, but he is driving me crazy. He is orthodox (Jewish) and insists on walking from sundown on Friday until sundown on Saturday, in order to observe Sabbath. We recently went out of town for a family function, and he had to stay with some strangers as their house was close to the synagogue, and his family’s was not….so while he was sleeping at the stranger’s house, I was at his family’s house without him……Help!

Dear Mother-in-Law,

My sister has decided to stop taking her birth control pill without telling her husband, who doesn’t want another child - they already have one. They already don’t get along very well, and she says he never helps her out and is terribly selfish. I’m worried that she’s going to wind up being a single mom with two kids and even less happy than she is now. Is there a way to voice my concern without sounding judgmental?
